Date: 10-05-2018
Timetable: 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Location: Tech Talent Center (Badajoz, 73. Barcelona)

Next Thursday 10 May at 7.30 pm, the Tech Talent Center (Carrer Badajoz 73, Barcelona) will be hosting the event Open Talent: ‘Elastic gridshells and construction aware structural design’ with the structural engineering and computational design expert Olivier Laurent Stephane Baverel.

Elastic gridshells are versatile structures that take shape from a flat configuration to their final shape. This type of structure has many design parameters which are quite difficult to master but at the same time they are fairly easy to build. The talk will focus precisely on the design stage, demonstrating the tools used and the calculation limitations. The last part of the talk will take a broader, more general view of structural design in the sphere of construction.

This edition of Open Talent will be held in English.

The speaker

Olivier Baverel is a Professor in structural engineering at the École des Ponts Paristech, a Professor at the school of architecture of Grenoble and head of computational design on the advanced Master’s Degree in Design by Data at the École des Ponts Paristech. He is a researcher at the Navier and GSA laboratories. He is editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Space Structures. His research centres on structural engineering, rationalisation of the construction of free-form structures and life-cycle analysis. He has also developed structural concepts such as ‘elastic gridshells’ in CFRP, nexorades, etc.

This event is open and free. To attend, please confirm using the ‘I WILL ATTEND’ form below. Limited places.
