The Open Talent session: 'International experience in the design and development of AAA video games' will take place in the CosmoCaixa - Science Museum Auditorium (C/Isaac Newton 26, Barcelona) at 6.45 pm on Wednesday 15 October, 2014, with Matthew Clarke and Amaia Iraola, animation and video game development professionals, who will be presenting their experiences at the multinational Ubisoft.
These two professionals will explain how to design, animate and develop new gameplay mechanics for AAA video games, using Assassin's Creed Unity Dead Kings, the well-known video game developed by Ubisoft, for reference. The presentation is an excellent opportunity to find out about the real challenges involved in major international productions, and the collaborations that take place between studios from different countries in order to develop a game of this type successfully. Clarke and Iraola have worked in studios in the United Kingdom, France and Canada and have extensive international experience.
The speakers
Matthew Clarke has been a game developer at Ubisoft since 2001. After obtaining a diploma in computer engineering at the University of Sherbrooke (Quebec, Canada), he began his career at Ubisoft Montreal, where he worked on the series Prince of Persia and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. He has worked at Ubisoft Barcelona since 2009, where he has worked as a developer on The Adventures of Tintin: The Unicorn's Secret, The Crew and Assassin's Creed: Unity Dead Kings.
Amaia Iraola has worked in the 3D field since 2001. She has worked on films, series and video games. She was initially involved in lighting for characters and animation, and gradually specialized in advanced 3D animation while training as an Animation Mentor. She has worked at the studios of Ubisoft Reflections (Newcastle, United Kingdom) and Ubisoft Montpellier (France), on the games The Crew and Assassin's Creed: Unity Dead Kings and she has been Lead Animator at Ubisoft Barcelona for the last three years.

This event will also present the final projects by students taking the master's degree in Video Game Design and Creation and the master's degree in Animation, Digital Art and Video Games at the UPC School on the programme during the 2013- 2014 academic year.
